Apart from making youngsters feel good about themselves, there are other advantages to celebrating their achievements. When children feel encouraged and reassured by those who care about them, they will strive harder to achieve their objectives and enhance their overall performance.  The most important thing is to acknowledge your child's accomplishments. This can be accomplished by telling them how proud you are of their accomplishments and what distinguishes them from other children. Some simple ways to honour your child's accomplishments are listed below-

Make time: Scheduling a "party" can seem hard, and it's easy to forget about it amid a busy week. That is why it is critical to recognise success as soon as feasible. Giving a child your complete, undivided attention is typically what they are looking for, and it shows that you are invested in their development. That, together with a hug, can go a long way toward recognising and appreciating life's minor (and occasionally large) victories. It's critical to set out a particular time to acknowledge and celebrate your child's small and larger achievements.

Reward them: Make sure you show your pride in your child by awarding them immediately away when they do anything. Remember that rewarding your child for every accomplishment, no matter how minor, will encourage them to keep up the good work and raise their self-esteem. Both physical and verbal gestures can assist you in connecting with your child and fostering positive interactions. Hugging or patting them on the back, as well as verbal statements like "excellent job," "What you do is incredible," "we are so proud of you," "way to go," and so on, will demonstrate your interest in what they do. Though it can be contentious, when it comes to giving physical rewards to children, such as gifts or money, certain conditions may allow it and demonstrate that hard effort is valued. Some valuable prizes, such as depositing money in the bank for their future schooling as a reward for outstanding grades, can aid them in the future while simultaneously recognizing their current achievement.

Display their achievements:  Displaying children's work or trophies, depending on their age, is a method for them to feel like their accomplishment is worthy of being seen. Displaying their artwork, pictures, certificates, trophies, medals, and other achievements on the wall or in a public place will show your child that their accomplishments make you proud. Making an effort to express how glad you are of their accomplishment will encourage them to keep performing better by making them feel like their accomplishment is worthy of being recognized.

Share your Child’s achievements with others: When you share your child's accomplishments with others, such as relatives, grandparents, friends, neighbours, other parents from school, your local community, and so on, you may show them how proud you are of them. Though we indeed live in the age of social media, and it is normal to share children's accomplishments on social media platforms, you must first determine whether your child wishes to share their achievements and, if so, with whom. People's encouragement and appreciation can help motivate children while positively acknowledging their accomplishments. This will also assist the child to comprehend that their good behaviour is rewarded not just by their parents or families but also by the community's love and support. Remember not to brag or embarrass your children or others when you praise their achievements.

Celebrate success and effort: We must recognize that our children will not be able to win every game or ace every test, but we should support and encourage them as long as they are giving it their all. While it is crucial to recognize each achievement, complimenting them on their efforts is one of the most effective methods to teach children the importance of hard work and perseverance and the fact that success does not come lightly. So, by emphasizing the significance of doing their best and doing things correctly rather than focusing on the results, you instill values and principles in them that will serve them well throughout their lives.

Create family traditions: While the repetition of some activities can become tedious, we frequently refer to it as a tradition when we repeat something enjoyable. Perhaps you have a plate that you only use on rare occasions or a tablecloth that you only use on special occasions. The joys of life should be celebrated as a tradition, and adding a physical aspect or activity (such as a family dance night) makes them more unforgettable. Praise your child in front of family and friends every time they deserve it. This will help them gain confidence. Calling grandparents or another family to congratulate them on their new accomplishments can make them feel more supported. If this becomes a tradition, the youngster will remember that good behaviour is rewarded with love and support from the community.

Celebrate with their favourite food: Meals are the best path to a child’s heart ; give them their favourite food. Plan a day out after each victory. Take them on picnics, to fine restaurants, or get ice cream, whatever their interests are. This will leave a lasting impression of wonderful memories and traditions and demonstrate your delight in their success. Being able to make mealtime decisions might be a great reward to commemorate a significant achievement. Your youngster will enjoy the freedom to choose the celebration, whether its frozen yoghurt treats, and supper at a favourite local restaurant, or a favourite meal at home followed by a family movie or game night.

Why should you rejoice rather than brag about your child's accomplishments?

You talk about their celebration when you celebrate. When you brag, though, you usually make it appear as if you were the reason they won. The following factors can help you distinguish between celebration and bragging.

  • Find methods to discuss the entire event rather than just what they did. If your child participates in sports, remember to congratulate them not just when they score but also when they command their game or even on defence.
  • Be modest yourself and set an example for your child. It would be beneficial if you avoided bragging about your child's accomplishments in front of those parents who are struggling.
  • Please don't mention how you contributed to their accomplishment. Everyone knows you were there to help, which will invalidate your child's hard effort.
  • Do not speak over another parent when they are discussing their child's accomplishments. Allow your youngster to finish their talk even if their score is greater than yours. Your youngster will feel uncomfortable if you dominate.
  • If you were a sports champion in the past and your child has now accomplished something similar, don't compare yourself to them. It will appear as if your child's achievement was due to genetics rather than hard work.
  • Encourage your youngster to be proud of themselves and their accomplishments. If you don't, they'll think no one cares about them or their efforts.
  • Do not do it if your youngster dislikes large party gatherings. It's pointless to force kids to attend an event intended for them if they don't want to.
  • Don't applaud your youngster without fully listening to them when they're talking about their triumph. It won't come off as sincere.
  • Never compare your child's success to that of their sibling, and it will make neither of them happy.
  • Don't make them feel as if you'll only respect them if they win in the future. Make it clear to them that they can go at their own pace.

These simple ways to recognise and support your child's accomplishments demonstrate that you are active in and aware of your child's activities and value their growth and wins.

These are all extremely easy methods that you may use to instil healthy, happy memories and develop a calm, confident behaviour qualities in youngsters, from simple words of encouragement to exhibiting successes.

They also assist youngsters in developing excellent habits, raising their self-esteem, increasing their optimism, making them feel important, and keeping them motivated and goal-oriented in their lives. When we, as parents and caregivers, recognise their efforts toward a goal, it becomes more significant and motivating for the children to perceive and pursue that objective.
