Agricultural Engineers design and develop fresh procedures, systems and devices for agriculture. Agriculture Engineers caters to the wide range of segments right from cultivation, research, and teaching to inspection and other supervisory work to commercial activities of establishing farms, plantations, orchards and carrying on exports of produce. Over the years Indian Agricultural industry has emerged to a highly scientific, sophisticated and mechanized industry. All this development and modernization of agricultural industry can be attributed to Agricultural Engineers.

 

Role Desciption

 

Agricultural Engineers use engineering technology and biological science to resolve various issues arising out of power and machines, electrification, soil and water conservation, structures and dispensation of products in agriculture. They also make use of computer aided design (CAD) technology to design agricultural and horticultural machinery tools. They are responsible for minimizing pollution in a farm’s water supply, improving the competence of a rural electric power system, exploring ways to extend the life of vegetables, make agricultural operations efficient and effective. The ultimate goal for these engineers is to improve crop and livestock production. They are focused on the design and manufacturing of the equipment and facilities. They study the impact of plant and food production on the environment, and find out the ways to minimize negative impacts. Some even prove their worth with great breakthroughs on production techniques like genetic engineering and cloning. These professionals also plan graphical representations of mechanical equipment, plan technical design details, communicate and discuss the same with clients. They also provide suggestions on green practices to resolve environmental concerns and study the impact of the same on environment.

Route to Agriculture Engineering Profession

 

  • 10+ 2 in Science Stream with PCB/PCM (Mathematics preferred)
  • B. Tech in Agricultural Engineering for 4 years
  • M. Tech in Agricultural Engineering for 2 years
  • PhD for 2-3 years/Job
