Educational Route to Become a Surgeon in India

  1. 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  2. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree (5.5 years including internship).
  3. Post-Graduation: Pursue a postgraduate degree in surgery. Options include:
    • MS (Master of Surgery): 3-year program in General Surgery or a specialized field of surgery.
    • DNB (Diplomate of National Board): 3-year program in surgery offered by the National Board of Examinations.
  4. Registration: Register with the Medical Council of India (MCI) or the respective State Medical Council to practice as a surgeon.
  5. Fellowships and Specializations: Optional fellowships or advanced training in specific areas of surgery for further specialization.
