Video Editor

Video editing is the creative and technical process of selecting the best out of raw footage, re-arrangement, and modifying the video for a movie. Raw or unusable footage may include footage of actors making mistakes, incorrect camera angles, or other errors.

Video editing uses creative and technical skills to gather and cut recorded footage in a visually appealing format suitable for broadcasting. Each scene should segue into the next flawlessly during the video editing process.

Another essential part of video editing is sound. Sound effects is added to the movie at just the correct times to make it appear as if they are part of the original video. This process can include adding sound effects like thunderstorms or simple footsteps and background music. During this part of Post-production, the timing must be perfect; however, if a sound is just a second or two late, it can ruin the entire effect.

Most employees who work in video editing profiles find quality images, clips and angles to communicate and convey a brand's message to its audience. This career can also involve creating visual clips and audio that educate viewers on various subjects, like industry topics, news updates, or product advertisements. Video editors also work in entertainment, creating entertainment videos for short films, webisodes or cinematic productions.

As a film or video editor, you'll need to assemble raw footage with camera shots that have been captured or transferred to video tape in preparation for input into the computer, digitally cut files to put together the sequence of the film and decide what's usable, input uncut rushes and sound, synchronize them, and store them in files on the computer, create a "rough cut" (or assembly edit) of the program/film and determine the exact cutting for the next and final stages, and reorder and fine-tune the content  to ensure the logical sequencing and smooth running of the film/video. Depending on your role, you may also need to complete technical aspects like fixing errors in the footage, grading and colouring it, and adding special effects.
